Resilience:  What works?

Good news!  Resilience, the ability to bounce back from difficult times, is a skill that we can all learn.  There are things that detract from resilience and things that help to build it.  We aren’t given a set dose of it and asked to navigate life with our allotted serving.  Knowing this is a huge reason why I began sharing what I learned from my own parenting journey with others.

It’s that time of year that parents and families start to plan for the summer. For many families, this includes looking into day camps or overnight summer camps for their children. While this can be an exciting time, it’s also a time a lot of parents and children can start to feel apprehensive or nervous – will my child have fun? Make friends? Be anxious? Feel homesick?

How to Support a Loved One or Peer with Mental Health Challenges

In my day to day work at the Kelty Centre, I receive calls, emails and drop-ins from families or youth wanting guidance or resources on how they can be a better support for their loved ones/peers. As a young adult with lived experience, I would say your presence is the most important thing. It is not about what you say, but instead how you make the person you are trying to support feel.
