Accessibility Statement

Our aim

BC Children’s Kelty Mental Health Resource Centre is committed to making our website more accessible and inclusive. We want everyone who visits our website to feel welcome and be able to find what they are looking for. We believe that improving the user experience for all people, regardless of circumstance or ability, helps everyone.

What we are doing

Our efforts to ensure that our website is accessible and usable to as many people as possible are based on best practice guidelines known as Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 and published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible. Learn more here.

The WCAG 2.1 guidelines have three levels: A, AA, and AAA. The Kelty website currently meets the middle level (AA) and aims for the highest level (AAA).

Some of the key ways we work to make the Kelty website accessible include:

  • responsiveness and customization:
    • responsiveness when zooming in on a page
    • keyboard navigation
    • Userway accessibility widget (bottom right), which features common accessibility profiles and can be customized
  • easy-to-follow pages:
    • high-contrast colours
    • easy-to-read fonts
    • clear and simple language where possible
    • smaller paragraphs
    • increased line spacing
    • headings and bullets
    • breadcrumbs
    • white space
  • reducing distractions and motion content
  • alternative text for our non-decorative images and links
  • podcast transcripts
