The B.C. Provincial ADHD Clinic at B.C. Children’s Hospital and Kelty Mental Health Resource Centre are hosting ADHD Parent Education Day on October 26, 2026 on Zoom or In-person. The education day is intended for parents and caregivers, however, all who are interested in learning more about ADHD are invited to attend. The topics will be presented by the clinicians of the ADHD clinic, including our child and adolescent psychiatrists, psychologists, social worker, and occupational therapist. The day will include a wide range of topics from ADHD Basics, Treatment to Parenting, School & Executive Functioning, and Self-Regulation. We look forward to seeing you there. The event is free but participants will need to register beforehand.

Our Speakers

Dr. Susan Baer (she/her) is a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist at BC Children’s Hospital where she works in the Provincial ADHD Clinic as well as in the Compass Program. She did her medical training at UBC and is now a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of British Columbia where she teaches medical students and residents. She has been at BC Children’s Hospital since 2004 and brings many years of experience working with ADHD, anxiety, and neurodevelopmental disorders. She loves working with children and families with complex needs and is passionate about helping children and youth with ADHD achieve their potential.

Dr Kaveh Darabian (he/him) is a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist at the BC Children’s Hospital in the Provincial ADHD Clinic as well as Acute Care. He completed his Fellowship at the B.C. Children’s Hospital and has continued as a Staff Psychiatrist, which has included working with young people and their families in the ADHD Clinic. He enjoys working with young people and their families impacted by ADHD by tailoring individualized pharmacological and non-pharmacological management approaches. He also is a big proponent of clinical research and medical education and highly values incorporating these into his daily clinical practice. ADHD remains an undertreated and misunderstood condition that involves multiple life domains across all ages and Dr Darabian is committed to helping and advocating for this population.

Miranda Doherty (she/her) is an occupational therapist and current clinic head of the B.C. Provincial ADHD Clinic at B.C. Children’s Hospital. She holds a Clinical Faculty position with the Department of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of British Columbia. Miranda has worked as a pediatric occupational therapist for over 25 years in the hospital and community setting, and she has been in the ADHD clinic since 2012. She has presented at CADDRA, CADDAC, and CHADD over the years.

Dr. Joanna McDermid (she/her) is a child and adolescent psychiatrist and clinical instructor with the Department of Psychiatry at BC Children’s Hospital and the University of British Columbia Faculty of Medicine in Vancouver, British Columbia. She is a Co-Director with the BC Children’s Hospital Centre for Mindfulness. In addition to psychiatry training, Dr. McDermid has done advanced teacher training in Mindful Practice in Medicine program through the University of Rochester. She completed a Contemplative Medicine Fellowship through the New York Zen Centre in 2023. Dr. McDermid has trained in Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) and Mindful Self Compassion (MSC). Dr. McDermid developed PAUSE (Present Awareness Using Skills Effectively), a flexible modules-based mindfulness program designed to supplement standard care for youth in residential treatment for eating disorders. Dr. McDermid created MARS-PC (Mindful Awareness and Resilience Skills for Parents and Caregivers), a mindfulness program for caregivers whose children are accessing care and support through BC Children’s Hospital.

Dr. Candice Murray (she/her) is a registered psychologist with 30 years of experience working in the area of ADHD. Her extensive career spans clinical practice, teaching, research, and advocacy. For 20 years, Dr. Murray worked in the Provincial ADHD Program at B.C. Children’s Hospital, where she served as the program’s director. Dr. Murray played a key role in developing “Rolling with ADHD”, a free video series that provides guidance about living with ADHD. Dr. Murray co-developed “Skills for Success: ADHD Strategies for Adults”, an MSP funded program available to residents in B.C. Dr. Murray serves on the Board of Directors for multiple ADHD organizations, where she advocates for individuals with ADHD at local, provincial, and national levels. Her research contributions include peer reviewed studies focusing on children and adults with ADHD.

Joerg Taylor-Philippin (he/him) is a Registered Social Worker with the Provincial ADHD Clinic at BC Children’s Hospital. He has worked for MCFD, CLBC, and in various social work roles at the Healthy Minds Centre at BC Children’s Hospital. He is also a parent of a teen with ADHD.

Dr. Ianto West (he/they) is a registered psychologist with the Provincial ADHD Clinic at BC Children’s Hospital. He brings several years of experience in integrated healthcare, with a focus on the assessment and treatment of ADHD, Autism, trauma, and co-occurring conditions across the lifespan. Dr. West completed his Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at Antioch University Seattle. His work emphasizes health equity and culturally responsive practices, with particular expertise in supporting families navigating complex systems such as healthcare, education, and social services. He has contributed to research on trauma-informed care and health disparities, and has presented nationally on topics including disability, diversity, and integrated care. Dr. West is passionate about supporting neurodivergent youth and their families through collaborative, strengths-based approaches.
