Guest Bios

Dr. Melanie McConnell
Registered Psychologist

Dr. Melanie McConnell is a Registered Psychologist, Director of Cornerstone Child and Family Psychology Clinic, and Clinical Instructor in Psychiatry at the University of British Columbia. She served as a staff psychologist at BC Children’s Hospital for nearly 20 years, most recently as Head of the Neuropsychiatry Clinic. Dr. McConnell is passionate about providing science-based education and clinical treatment to children, youth, and adults living with tics. She co-developed and co-leads the Tic Workshop for Parents and the Tic Busters Group treatment for childhood tics at Cornerstone.

Lesley
Parent

Lesley is a mom of four children, one of whom has Tourette Syndrome. Her experiences have shaped her understanding of the importance of advocacy for inclusion and supports. She is an Inclusion Support Teacher in the Lower Mainland, where she works passionately to support students with disabilities. She has also recently joined the Kelty Mental Health Parent and Caregiver Advisory Council. With firsthand experience as a parent, Lesley brings a strong commitment to creating inclusive environments where all students can thrive. Her advocacy for students with diverse needs goes beyond the classroom, as she is an active supporter of initiatives that promote understanding, accessibility, and equality for all people.
