What are ways to practice tuning into the present moment?

Here are a few ideas to consider in your day:

  • Remember that you are already mindful
  • Take 30 seconds out of your busy day to notice your breath

          Breathing in, I know I’m breathing in

          Breathing out, I know I’m breathing out

  • Try the STOP meditation:

Stop what you're doing and get out of auto pilot mode. Take three mindful breaths. Observe what's happening, right now in this moment with an attitude of kindness and acceptance. Proceed and carry on with what you're doing but with presence

  • Practice mindful moments using your senses. Perhaps this is listening to your favourite music, feeling the warmth of the sunshine, or being in nature and looking at the beauty. You can also try a mindfulness practice like "Sight, sound and touch" in the free BC Children's Breathr app.  
  • Slow down. Ask yourself, is there a daily task or activity you can do tomorrow without rushing?   
  • Share mindful moments with your child
