Provincial Mental Health Literacy Workshops
When it comes to supporting child and youth mental wellness, improvements in mental health literacy can have a number of benefits including prevention, early recognition and intervention, and the reduction of stigma and discrimination.
The Kelty Mental Health Resource Centre has a variety of resources and services available to help educators support youth mental wellness. The team is offering a series of free workshops for school districts in the North, Interior and Island regions of BC.
Through this initiative, the team will work with each district to provide a customized information session for members of the school community, including an introduction to the following:
- Stop Wondering, Start Knowing: A Mental Health Video Resource - An introduction to talking about mental health in schools
- Foundrybc.ca - An interactive website for youth and young adult mental health and wellness
- Kelty Mental Health Resource Centre - BC's information source for children, youth and families, including peer support for parents and youth.
- Resources for students experiencing stress, anxiety, depression and other mental health challenges.
In 2016-2017, the team delivered workshops in seven school communities:
- SD22 (Vernon)
- SD5 (Cranbrook)
- SD54 (Smithers)
- SD61 (Victoria)
- SD 70 (Port Alberni)
- SD23 (Kelowna)
- SD91 (Nechako Lakes)
In the 2017-2018 school year, we are visiting nine school districts across British Columbia. To learn more about the workshops, please contact Amy.Obetkoff@cw.bc.ca
