Not all families have a network of friends, relatives or community support. This can make separation and divorce feel even more isolating. But there are ways to build connections and find the support you need.
- Explore community resources such as community centres, cultural organizations or online groups. They can be important sources of support for families without built-in social networks. These groups often offer emotional support, practical advice and a sense of belonging.
- Find professional support. A family counsellor or social worker can help you to manage the changes you are dealing with. Resources, such as sliding scale counselling services, can provide support when it’s challenging to access other mental health services.
- Find strength within your family unit. Your immediate family may offer strength and resilience. Focus on how your family members can support one another with emotional openness and understanding.
- Connect with a Family Peer Support worker. Contact the Kelty Centre for more information, support options or just to find a listening ear for parents and caregivers.
