In this webinar, we will be discussing the role of youth and children who have a sibling living with mental health challenges. Siblings play an important role in the family dynamic. It is common to get questions on how we can best support them and respond to questions that they ask. During this webinar, we will explore:

  • The common sibling dynamics along with emotions and behaviors that may arise in the household, community, or hospital setting
  • Useful coping strategies and activities to involve siblings the best way we can when supporting a child with mental health challenges
  • How to talk to your children about their sibling’s diagnosis
  • Resources that can be used to support all family members (parent and caregiver resources, sibling resources)

This webinar will be presented in collaboration with BC Children’s Sibling Support Centre. The Sibling Support Centre & Services at BC Children's + Women's Hospitals is a free support service for families who are on campus while their child is in care or receiving care. The Centre provides short term sibling supports with play in a creative volunteer supported setting. The Centre also provides free access to sibling specific resources.
