FORCE Parents in Residence Featured Resources

Every month, the Kelty Centre's FORCE Parents in Residence select a resource that they find useful for parents of children and youth who are experiencing mental health and substance use challenges. Here are this month's resources:

Mary recommends the ADHD: Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder--Information for Families booklet, produced by BC Children's Hospital: I like this resource because it presents information to families in a clear , easy to follow and understand format.  Many families struggle with supporting children with ADHD.

Marilyn recommends Grandparents Raising Grandchildren:

I have used this resource when Grandparents have called and they have custody of their Grandchildren. There can be many complex issues when Grandparents are raising grandchildren in the short and long term. It can be extremely stressful for these grandparents who are not only dealing with issues with their own children but then are now raising their grandchildren. This complicated by sometimes quite advanced age and related health issues. In addition to a huge generational gap in how to deal with issues with their grandchildren.

They offer emotional and social support as well as legal advice. They also have a support line.
