Balancing Our Minds 2014: Tools for Youth Wellness is an event organized by BC Mental Health & Substance Use Services in partnership with the Vancouver Canucks.

The event is being planned in collaboration with youth organizations that work in the area of mental health, and with youth who are passionate about breaking down barriers and creating connections.

It is a free, one-day workshop for high school age youth (13-18) in BC to learn about mental health and engage in fun activities and thoughtful dialogue. This year we are fortunate to be partnering with the Vancouver Canucks to make this event even bigger and more impactful than the last! Balancing Our Minds 2014: Tools for Youth Wellness will be hosted at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, and will be attended by approximately 1,500 youth, teachers and parents from across the province.

Specific goals and outcomes of this event include:

  • Increasing knowledge and awareness of mental health and substance use issues.
  • Enhancing understanding of the spectrum of mental health challenges and mental wellness.
  • Increasing awareness of available tools, resources and services to promote and support mental health.
  • Decreasing stigmatizing attitudes and behaviours towards individuals experiencing mental health challenges.

Balancing Our Minds 2014 will be hosted and facilitated by two FORCE Youth in Residence, Brent Seal and Sarah Irving. Click here to learn more about the FORCE Youth in Residence and their work at the Kelty Mental Health Resource Centre.

Please note that all youth under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult. As this is a youth-focused event, we request that each teacher/school counsellor/parent/guardian be accompanied by a minimum of four youth.
