The Champions of Wellness Awards Program is here!

Kelty Mental Health Resource Centre Team on August 07, 2014

We know that there are so many youth out there making an amazing difference in the field of mental health and we want to acknowledge all the hard work and dedication they’ve put in. If you’re a youth 25 or under in BC who has lived experience with a mental health challenge or are a sibling, friend or supporter of someone living with mental health challenges, we want to hear your story!

Mental health challenges are a paradox. They have such a wide-reaching effect on individuals, their families, and communities but they’re a very isolating experience. Ending the stigma that keeps people from asking for help or reaching out to others starts with you. We want you to know that the work you do, as an individual with their own mental health challenges or as a supporter of others going through a mental health challenge, is invaluable.

The three categories for the Mental Health Awards are:

Community Involvement – for youth who are tirelessly working within their community or school to promote mental health and wellness.

Supporting Others – for youth who are supporting a friend, family member or individuals in the community who are struggling with their own mental health

Sharing Your Story – for youth who have opened up about their own struggles with mental health challenges in an outstanding way.

The selection committee will be made up of Kelty Youth Ambassadors from all over the province and winners will be selected in December 2014. Youth with lived experience, siblings, friends and supporters of people with mental health challenges are encouraged to apply to the category that is the best fit!

The winners will be announced at the Balancing Our Minds Youth Summit at Rogers Arena in February 2015, in front of a large audience of youth who are passionate about mental health and wellness. There will also be a prize for every winning individual!
