Open Minds 2012 is coming to Vancouver!

Kim on September 27, 2012

An event called “Open Minds” will be taking place in Vancouver on Monday, October 1st! To learn more about this event, I interviewed Michelle C., the member of our Health Literacy team who has organized this event in B.C. for the last two years.

Q: What is Open Minds?

A: Open Minds Across Canada is a national initiative founded by Healthy Minds Canada. The event happens every year during Mental Illness Awareness Week (September 30th to October 6th), and is taking place in ten different cities across the country.

Q: What is the purpose of Open Minds?

A: The purpose of this event is to allow mental health researchers to share their research findings with members of the public.

Q: Who should attend this event?

A: This event is intended for everyone! Families, parents, youth, seniors, health care provides, educators, services providers, justice workers and members of the general public are all invited to participate!

Q: What do you think is most exciting about Open Minds?

A: I’m really excited about how the presenters will each introduce different perspectives on mental health research. Our speakers this year are all very unique, and will be covering a variety of mental health topics, from positive mental health in youth, to Aboriginal mental health, to mental illness and stigma. This is a great opportunity to learn, to ask questions, to discuss, and to share ideas.

Q: Where can I register for this event?

A: You can register for this event online by visiting www.healthymindscanada.ca. Admission is free, and walk-ins are also welcome! For more information, you can also check out the Healthy Minds Canada social media channels. Follow @Healthy_Minds on Twitter, or visit the Healthy Minds Canada facebook page.

Hope to see you all on Monday! This is an occasion not to be missed. Additional details about the Open Minds Across Canada 2012 Symposium can be found in Kelty Event Calendar.
