We are BC’s source for mental health and substance use information for children, youth & families. Founded in 2008 with a generous donation from the Kelty Patrick Dennehy Foundation, the Kelty Centre is housed at the BC Children’s Hospital. Our centre offers information and resources on child and youth mental health and substance use issues. We also offer eating disorders support for all ages.
Our Centre has grown tremendously in the last three years and we now have a team of seven staff members who support children, youth and families across the province. Our team members include professionals who manage and coordinate our programs, and parents and youth who have lived through mental health challenges. There are two FORCE Parent in Residences (PiRs) that are here to offer peer support to parents. We also have two Youth in Residences (YiRs) who offer peer support and mentorship to youth. We also have an Eating Disorders Peer Support Worker on staff to provide her insights and experience in recovery.
Our core strength is helping people navigate the mental health system in BC. We connect them with the appropriate treatment and support services in their community. We also host free monthly educational sessions for the public – the Pinwheel Education Series – that focus on different mental health or substance use challenges each month. We welcome you to call, email or drop by the Kelty Centre, Monday to Friday from 10am-5pm. We look forward to serving you! In addition, you are welcome to explore the keltymentalhealth.ca website which is available online 24/7 and which lists free events and contains valuable information and resources.
