RBC Children’s Mental Health Project is RBC's cornerstone “health and wellness” pillar
RBC Children’s Mental Heath Project is a multi-year philanthropic commitment to support community-based and hospital programs that reduce stigma, provide early intervention and increase public awareness about children’s mental health issues.
People of all ages and cultures, regardless of education and income level can be affected by mental illness—including children. Most mental disorders begin in childhood or adolescence, but if the signs of mental illness are recognized early and appropriate interventions are taken, children can go on to lead normal and productive lives. At any given point in time, one in five children and adolescents will suffer from a mental illness severe enough to cause significant distress and impaired functioning. This can take an enormous toll on children and families, as well as our workplaces, schools and communities. In fact, the financial impact of mental health issues on the Canadian economy is staggering. This is why RBC launched the RBC Children’s Mental Health Project in 2009, supporting programs that provide early intervention as well as those that help reduce stigma through public education.
